As a native of Thuringia, Antje Baumbach studied in Marburg (Hesse), where she worked as an assistant in the Department of Civil Law. Ms Baumbach carried out her legal internship in Kassel, Marburg and Frankfurt am Main, as well as at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer.
From 1999 to 2001, she served on the board of management at the General Office for Combatting Unfair Competition in Frankfurt am Main and Dresden. In the course of those activities, she dealt extensively with issues of substantive competition law and civil procedure relating to competition law and intellectual property.
Thereafter, Ms Baumbach worked as an in-house counsel for ares Energie-direkt GmbH in Berlin, where she specialised in legal aspects of grid access in the liberalised electricity market. The focus of her activities included the drafting and negotiation of energy contracts, proceedings before the courts and cartel authorities regarding conditions of grid access and grid fees.
